Car Seats

Australia has great standards for car seat safety, recognizing the importance of securing your child when travelling in the car. And while you as a parent or carer might not always be able to control the possibility of an accident, rest assured that you can still protect your child with our range of car seats and safety devices.

Capsules

Capsules are great for newborn and young babies, cocooning your baby in a way similar to a stroller to keep them comfortable when driving in the car, and safe in the event of an accident. It is very important to have these special backwards facing capsules for your newborn and young children, because babies' heads are large in relation to their bodies, and their neck muscles have yet to properly develop, so in the event of an accident, or even hard braking, forward facing babies heads are flung forward, leading to possible neck and spine damage. These baby capsules prevent this, by being padded and backwards facing, which is much safer in the event of an accident.

The Polo Infant Baby Capsule is designed with safety in mind, suitable for a child from birth up to 9 kg in weight. Its unique two piece design protects your baby in the event of an accident. The easily removable bassinet allows for simple transfer of your baby to and from the car, and is machine washable.

We also offer the Unity Baby Capsule, designed with high side walls for maximum protection in the event of an accident, no matter where the impact comes from. Its compact design is perfect for small cars, and it comes with all-round additional padding to cushion and protect your child. Both of these products were developed by Safe-n-Sound, who the RTA singled out as their preferred buy for rearward facing child restraints in their Buyer's Guide to Child Restraints.

Convertible Child Restraints

Convertible Child Restraints are suitable for children up to around 18 kg, which is usually approximately 5 years of age. ABC Baby Warehouse offers a wide range of convertible car seats; each of them designed and manufactured to strict Australian Safety Standards. But safety and peace of mind don't need to break the bank, as can be seen with the Go-Safe Cleo Car Seat. It features, as do all of our convertible child restraints, a 5-point safety harness, a safety device which has been cited by the Child Passenger Safety Agency as the safest form of child restraint, over T-Shields and Overhead Shields. This seat is also a great option, as it converts from rear-facing to front-facing, so can be used for your little ones from when they are newly born up until around 5 years, and it features four harness positions, which can be adjusted as your child grows. The Mother's Choice Civic Car Seatis also adjustable from rear to front facing, and features four harness positions. A great additional feature is a matching insert that can be placed into the seat for little ones, and removed as they grow, ensuring the greatest contoured comfort no matter how old your baby is. The Safe-n-Sound Safeguard Child Seat has been designed with all of these great safety features, and has also been specially engineered so that your child can remain in the backwards facing position up until 12 kg for maximum safety. The Go-Safe Majestic Deluxe Car Seat is the ultimate in car safety as it accommodates your baby through every stage of development, providing the ultimate in care, comfort and safety when travelling. Go-Safe also manufacture the easy to install Summit Deluxe, with high profile wings for added safety and comfort, and an additional insert, all in high quality fabric trims. Another great choice of the Go-Safe range is the Knight Car Seat, a space saving option designed for the smaller car, with the added safety of a 6-point harness.

Mother's Choice are a great Australian brand, whose quality car seats meet and exceed the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1754 and are all Australian made. Their Pursuit Car Seat offers all the great features of all of our car seats and includes a protective stabilising arm. The Premier Manual from Safe-n-Sound also offers the great safety feature of a protective stabilising bar, and comes with a luxury padded insert for greater comfort.

If you're after a car seat that is both functional and stylish, Aungur make both the Red and Black Car Seat 3000 and the Blue and Black Car Seat 3000. Both of these fashionable devices come with four harness positions that you can adjust as your child grows, and a full range of great safety features. A great all-round car seat is the Windsor Car Seat, which was designed with the idea of covering all bases in its safety features, which include conversion between rear and front facing as your child grows, high profile wings for comfort and safety, protective stabilising arm, a matching insert with extra foam padding, and of course the 5-point Safety Harness for maximum safety and peace of mind.

Of course, rearward facing car seats are a much safer alternative for younger children, but it can be difficult to get your child into and out of a rearward facing car seat, especially if you drive a smaller car, or one that's low to the ground. With this in mind, Infa have designed the Turn-a-Tot, a convertible car seat which revolves around from rearward facing mode to frontward facing without the car seat itself being removed from the car. This means that you can look after your back, while remaining assured that your child is in a car seat with all the latest safety accessories and features.

The pride of ABC Baby Warehouse's range of car seats comes from Safe-n-Sound, one of the highest rating designers of car seats when it comes to safety. Safe-n-Sound have developed the Meridian Manual, available both as the Meridian Manual Mid-Grey design, and in the Meridian Manual Oxford design. This car seat was the winner of the Australian International Design Awards in 2006. They are fitted with a height adjustable headrest for superior head protection especially in side crashes. The headrest (AHR - Active Head Restraint) system adjusts up and down to a position beside the head to provide important side protection for the head for babies and children. The headrest is lined with EPS to absorb energy inside and rear crashes. The overall system allows for taller children and for superior head protection for the child. The Baby Insert provides protection for babies where the torso support needs to align with the headrest. The side wings of the pad have energy absorbing EVA inserts. The product provides a means of adjusting the harness to best fit the occupant and a means of operating the seat recline from the front for the comfort of the sleeping child. The headrest and Baby insert pad provide good positioning of the child, particularly their head. The plastic, the harness webbing and components are made to last for in excess of 10 years. The Seats are backed by a 5 year warranty with 2 years on the seat covers. The product exceeds the testing required by the Australian Standard (the toughest in the world). In addition, these restraints have been crash test at - and to prove its performance at temperatures other that . As with all Safe-n-Sound child restraints, regular testing ensures that the seats meet the stringent quality plan including crash testing one seat for every 1000 seats manufactured. Furthermore, this seat has also been designed with the environment in mind, made from materials that can be used in vehicles and exposed to sunlight with the main moldings being made from recyclable polypropylene.

Booster Seats

Once your child gets a little bit older and heavier, booster seats are the more appropriate form of car seat. Booster seats range from simple seats without a back that fit securely into the cars, to more complex enclosed seats.

A simple solution is the Cleo Zoom Child Booster Seat, or the Solar Zoom Child Booster Seat, both suitable for toddlers and children 14kg to 26kg. These boosters have high side wings for support and seat belt guides on both sides to ensure sash seat belts are correctly fitted. These features are also offered on the Mother's Choice Booster Seat, which feature an extra wide seat which is contoured for added comfort.

For something a bit larger, Graco offers the Air Booster Cushion, which features micro-adjustable technology to reduce pressure points, and is made from breathable seat material to let air circulate so that your kids stay comfy.

Kids will love the Wiggles Booster Seat, featuring colourful Wiggles graphics to ensure that your kids will enjoy climbing into the car, every time! It is also a safe option, with high side wings for extra head support. Another popular choice amongst the children is the Dora the Explorer. This was also one of the few booster seats to receive a preferred buy rating from the Roads and Traffic Authority.

The sleek and stylish Aunger Booster Seat is another very safe option, with its specially designed padded headrest to prevent neck or head damage in the event of an accident. Kids will love its flashy red colours and comfortable design.

Safe-n-Sound is one of the most safety conscious baby seat designers in the market, and has consistently placed highly in the RTA's analysis of the best car seats around. One of their popular designs is the Pegasus Toddler Booster, the tallest booster seat on the market. It features impact absorbing, compression resistant polystyrene foam for added strength and durability, and will be comfortable for your child, even if long trips are required, with its plush luxurious trim with additional cushioning and super soft head pillow. Also from Safe-n-Sound is what has to be the Rolls-Royce of booster seats, the Hi-Liner Toddler Booster. This seat complies with the strictest Australian Standards, features deep side wings designed for better side impact protection, an expandable, height adjustable head restraint which can be changed to grow as your child does, and an ergonomic design which bends to follow contour of cars seat recline. It also comes with cup holder and tray, so no more messy spills in the back seat!

Whichever booster seat you eventually decide upon, make sure that you check out the RTA's Safer Child Restraints Guide, a great guide that we here at ABC Baby Warehouse have examined carefully to ensure that we can bring you the safest child restraints at the best prices.
